Two breakout acts with No 1 singles around the world and Australian synth-pop duo Empire of the Sun are the leading acts in this year's Orientation Week.

The 2015 Otago University Students' Association Orientation Week line-up was announced yesterday and features musical acts from around the globe and, for the second successive year, a live filming of New Zealand comedy TV show 7 Days.

As in previous years, the Dunedin public and not just students, are invited to all the main events.

The week is being head-lined by Empire of the Sun, playing at Forsyth Barr Stadium on February 19.

Last year the duo, known for sporting flamboyant costumes, played at some of the world's largest festivals, including Coachella, Ultra Music Festival, and The Governors Ball.

Breakout acts Kiesza and Sigma, both coming off No 1 singles, are playing at the Orientation Afterparty at the stadium on March 5.

The concert will be Canadian solo artist Kiesza's first performance in New Zealand after hitting the charts last year with Hideaway.

English drum and bass act Sigma had two hit singles in 2014, Nobody to Love, which made No 1 in Britain and New Zealand, and Changing feat Paloma Faith.

Other acts included Australian reggae-pop band Sticky Fingers and New Zealand hip-hop artist David Dallas and the Daylight Robbery.

OUSA president Paul Hunt was ''incredibly excited'' about this year's line-up.

''The events team have done a fantastic job. They have been working tirelessly for the last month to secure these big name acts and I think students will be really pleased with the calibre of bands.''

OUSA events co-ordinator Emma Anderson was keen to encourage non-students and people living outside Dunedin to come to events.

About 5000 people were expected to attend both Empire of the Sun and the after-party.

Students could buy a ''super pass'' for $199 (plus service fees), which gave access to all events.

For the first time, the Super Pass would also include a ''zooperpass'' giving access to the first five Highlanders games of the year.

Students wanting to go to the three main music events could pick up a ''music pass'' for $125 (plus service fees), which was also available for non-students for $145. Tickets go on sale on Thursday.
