Mosgiel Memorial RSA committee member Bing Crosbie (84) is ''very happy'' the club's extensive collection of military memorabilia and its library books will soon be much better housed.

A major $1.2 million redevelopment at the club is nearing completion, and facilities for housing, displaying and protecting the club's military memorabilia have been greatly improved.

Mr Crosbie has lived in Mosgiel for the past 50 years, and has long helped look after the club's library books and memorabilia.

The upgrade would make it much easier to care for and organise collection items and was a great advance on previously cramped and inadequate conditions, he said.

The club is also planning to stage a sizeable display of Gallipoli-related artefacts next month on Anzac Day, which marks the centenary of the landing by Anzac troops at Gallipoli on April 25, 1915.

In its recent newsletter, the club asked members if they had any items they wished to lend to the club for temporary display, including to highlight the extensive ''home front'' activities undertaken by family members who had remained in Mosgiel during World War 1.

Mr Crosbie said any members considering lending an item to the club should contact him first. His email address is acrosbiebing@gmail.com
