More than 40 pupils from schools across the region participated in the event, which tests their knowledge of literature.
The Tahuna Intermediate No 1 team won the competition and will represent the region at the national final in Wellington in May.
The team aims to win a place in the world championships to be held in the United States later this year.
Dunedin North Intermediate No 2 was second and Tahuna Intermediate No 2 third.
