Sergeant Graeme Evans, of Dunedin South, said the woman was being treated for a broken leg and chest injuries sustained from her seatbelt after two cars collided at the intersection of State Highway 1 and Grey St at Allanton about 4.30pm yesterday.
The 32-year-old male driver of the other vehicle sustained bruising from his seatbelt. The age and condition of a male passenger in the vehicle with the man was unavailable.
Senior Sergeant Craig Brown, of Dunedin, said the investigation was continuing but it appeared the woman had failed to give way.
The woman was travelling south and the two men were travelling north, Snr Sgt Brown said.
