Onlookers watch as firefighters attend an electrical fire at Dunedin Railway Station yesterday.

A Fire Service southern communications spokesman said firefighters from Roslyn and St Kilda Fire Stations were called after a fire alarm activated at the station about noon yesterday.

The firefighters could not find a fire and requested Willowbank Station to bring a thermal imaging camera.

With the camera, an electrical fire was located in a ceiling space on the station's ground floor of the station.

The fire was extinguished using a fire hose in the station and a dry powder extinguisher.
