Police suspect car break-ins linked

Property was stolen from several cars parked on Dunedin streets and police suspect the unlawful entries are linked.

Police think the same person unlawfully entered six cars, in the central city and Mornington areas, on Tuesday night, Senior Sergeant Liz Waru said.

Of the six cars, five had signs of forced entry, Snr Sgt Waru said.

A stopwatch and $4 were stolen from a locked car in Stafford St, sunglasses and coins from a locked car in Fernhill St and coins were taken from a locked car in Montpellier St and a locked car in McCrea St, Mornington.

A car parked in Alva St and one in Serpentine Ave were broken into but nothing was stolen.

The offending occurred between 6pm on Tuesday and 9.20am on Wednesday.
