Ombudsman investigating DHB complaints

The Office of the Ombudsman is considering three complaints about official reluctance to release information about the Southern District Health Board's plight.

The Otago Daily Times has lodged separate complaints about Health Minister Dr Jonathan Coleman's office, the Ministry of Health, and the health board.

The ministry withheld parts of Crown monitor Jan White's reports on the board's problems.

The Ombudsman's Office is assessing the complaint.

Redactions made by officials in Dr Coleman's office include four of six ''factors'' whose ''impacts'' a southern health commissioner needed to address.

The advice was tendered by the ministry while Dr Coleman was considering whether to appoint a commissioner at the board.

The Office of the Ombudsman is assessing the complaint.

It also confirmed yesterday it would investigate a complaint about the health board's refusal to release reports written by Alma Consulting about its finances.
