There will be no open inquest into the death of former Dunedin City Council Citifleet team leader Brent Bachop.
Instead, the death of the man found to be at the centre of the council's $1.5million vehicle fraud is being dealt with in chambers, the Otago Daily Times understands.
The findings would still be made public once the process is complete, which is understood to be close.
Mr Bachop died suddenly in May last year, days after being approached about irregularities within his department.
Subsequent investigations by Deloitte and Dunedin police revealed the extent of the Citifleet fraud, and put Mr Bachop at the centre of it.
His death was referred to the coroner, but any hearing was then put on hold while the fraud investigation continued.
That came to and end with the release of the final police report, detailing its findings, earlier this month.
The police report concluded that Mr Bachop was the sole party responsible for the fraud, and that there was insufficient evidence to charge anyone else.
