Screaming for joy, Queenstown Primary School's year 8 pupils run towards the sea at St Kilda Beach in Dunedin yesterday.
The year 8 classes are in the city this week on the school's annual leavers' camp.
Year 8 team leader Brendon Martyn said the camp was usually held in a city to give the children an urban experience.
The 61 pupils and their 10 adult supervisors had a great week in the Dunedin sun - they had been to the beach three times before yesterday's session with the St Kilda Surf Lifesaving Club - including visits to Tahuna Intermediate for a sports day, the Otago Peninsula, Moana Pool, the Portobello Aquarium, where they dissected a shark, and a night on a marae.
The children had spent the past six weeks helping to organise the camp, Mr Martyn said.
