Dunedin might still be lining up to poach the Wellington Sevens, but it has already got one over the capital city.

Dunedin Venues Management Ltd, the company running Forsyth Barr Stadium, has named Glenys Coughlan, of Wellington, as one of two new directors to help guide the company forward.

Ms Coughlan is the chief executive of Positively Wellington Venues, part of her extensive background in marketing, public relations and tourism, but will depart the capital to start a new life in the South, it was confirmed in a statement.

She will be joined at the DVML board table by another new director, Kevin Winders, chief operating officer at Silver Fern Farms in Dunedin.

DVML chairwoman Raewyn Lovett said she was excited by the recruitment of the pair, who she predicted would help take the company "to the next level''.

They would replace Peter Stubbs, who stepped down at the end of his term, and Alan McConnon, who died in a car crash in October.

Dunedin Mayor Dave Cull said the new directors would bring "a wealth of experience, knowledge and new skills'' to the DVML board.

Mr Winders had a ‘‘strong'' background in financial management, including previously working as Silver Fern Farms' chief financial officer.

He was a director of Kotahi Logistics LLP and Timaru Container Port Ltd, and a former director of NZ Merino Ltd and Farm Brands Ltd.

Ms Coughlan was chairwoman of PATA New Zealand Trust and deputy chairwoman of the Outward Bound New Zealand board, as well as being a former director of Tourism New Zealand and former chairwoman of Positively Wellington Tourism.

She planned to move to Central Otago early next year to take up a new role as general manager of the Central Otago Winegrowers' Association, in addition to her DVML duties.

Mr Winders was appointed for a three-year term and Ms Coughlan for a one-year term, to enable future replacements to be staggered.

Their appointments were confirmed at last week's council meeting, along with the reappointment of fellow directors Patricia Oakley (Dunedin International Airport Ltd), Michael Horne (City Forests Ltd), Geoff Thomas and Stan Rodger (both Taieri Gorge Railway Ltd), David Wood (Otago Excursion Train Trust's appointee to Taieri Gorge Railway Ltd), Peter Hutchison (DVML), Trevor Kempton and Dave Frow (Aurora Energy Ltd and Delta Utility Services Ltd).
