Another tourist vehicle break-in

A car was broken into in Seal Point Rd, on the Otago Peninsula, on Wednesday and a bag containing a passport taken, in the fourth incident of its type in the past two weeks.

The incidents were almost ‘‘guaranteed'' to be connected, police said.

Sergeant Steve Aitken, of Dunedin, said the theft at Sandymount between 4.45pm and 5.30pm was from a tourist vehicle and the passport stolen was American.

The left rear window was smashed to gain entry, Sgt Aitken said.

● A vehicle was stolen from Pak'n Save about 4.30pm on Wednesday. Sgt Aitken said the vehicle was recovered in John Wilson Ocean Dr in St Kilda that evening but the stereo had been removed and a bag containing medication was missing.

● An unlocked caravan on a vacant section was entered and camping equipment taken between December 20 and December 23.

Items missing included a gas cooker and several tube lanterns.

It was the second time the caravan had been targeted recently.

● A silver MacBook and its mint green case were stolen from a student flat in Regent St between 11am and 4pm on Wednesday. Entry was gained through an unlocked window, Sgt Aitken said.

●The front door of a home in Milburn St, Corstorphine, was kicked in on Tuesday night. .

A neighbour was woken by the sound of ‘‘someone banging around'' but thought nothing of it.

Inquiries were continuing.
