Banking glitch resolved

The Milton woman among Westpac customers left out of pocket following a banking glitch on Christmas Eve has received a refund and an extra gift from the bank.

The woman, who declined to be named, said she was left in overdraft after a glitch saw her charged twice for a $181 grocery bill in Balclutha.

Nearly a week later, she approached the Otago Daily Times after a refund failed to materialise despite repeated calls to Westpac.

But yesterday, the woman confirmed bank staff had been in touch again and had refunded the missing $181.

They had also credited her account with an additional $181, on top, to cover ‘‘the inconvenience'' involved, she said.

The result was a ‘‘great outcome all round'' that left her feeling ‘‘pleased'', the woman said.‘‘[I] never expected it at all so [it] was really nice for them to do that,'' she said.

A Westpac spokesman confirmed the matter was resolved but declined further comment.
