Chief operating officer appointed

The University of Otago's operations will be in new hands as of April 11.

Otago University capital project unit manager Stephen Willis has been appointed chief operating officer, the university announced yesterday.

John Patrick announced his retirement from the position last year.

Mr Willis began in his current position six months ago after working in management and property development at a health services company in Queensland.

Vice-chancellor Harlene Hayne said in a statement Mr Willis would be taking over ‘‘a pivotal leadership role taking us forward in these challenging but also exciting times''.

Mr Willis said he felt ‘‘absolutely honoured, privileged, and excited to come to an organisation that has been left in such an exceptional position thanks to the dedication and hard work of outgoing COO John Patrick''.
