A motorcycle pack with an average age of 64 roared around Dunedin yesterday delivering a message.

Postiebike Adventure was a week-long fun ride to raise money for the New Zealand Prostate Cancer Foundation, organiser Ivan Fahey, of Cromwell, said.

On this year's adventure, Honda CT110s were ridden on a return trip between Cromwell and Dunedin.

The trip was mostly on back roads, farm tracks and 4WD routes, he said. ‘‘It's a lot of fun.''

The event was in its third year and attracted more riders every year. This year, the riders had an average age of 64.

The journey started on February 7 with 26 riders, but two were injured in crashes during the first two days of riding ‘‘challenging'' 4WD tracks.

‘‘Sadly, we had a couple of spills.''

One rider sustained a broken collarbone and the other had bruised ribs.

The CT110 was commonly used on farms and to deliver mail and was perfect for the journey because of ‘‘their amazing reliability and adaptability''.

They had a highway cruising speed of 75kmh.

‘‘Downhill with a tailwind, we get up to 80kmh.''The riders would travel from Dunedin to Pounawea today, stopping at Nugget Point.

The trip usually raised about $2000 for the foundation.
