Long-serving councillor Andrew Noone says he is "highly unlikely'' to seek re-election to the Dunedin City Council.

The six-term councillor has represented the Waikouaiti Coast-Chalmers ward for 18 years, but yesterday told the Otago Daily Times it was time for fresh blood.

 Split over Labour ticket prospect

"It's been a humbling experience to represent your city. I feel it's probably time for me to move on.''

Many of the issues that encouraged him to stand had been resolved by the council, and he was "reasonably content'' with what he had contributed.

Cr Noone was also confident there were ‘‘younger folk out there prepared to put their hand up'' for a council seat.

"It's a chance for someone else to have a crack.''
