The Dunedin South MP said the meeting was "an opportunity to discuss the situation and find ways forward''.
"It can't just be about attributing blame and having a whinge. It has got to be more than that to be constructive.''
The meeting will be held at 6pm on Monday in the Nations Church (334 King Edward St).
She hoped it would allow residents to express their views, ask questions and begin a public discussion about South Dunedin's future.
Ms Curran said she was still finalising the line-up of speakers, but hoped it would include a mix of people affected directly by the floods, school representatives, business leaders, an engineer to tease out the underlying causes of the flooding and a representative from the Dunedin City Council.
"This is actually about the community having a sense that it is being listened to, and that what it thinks has value.
"But also it will be an opportunity to ask questions and say what information that they need.''
Ms Curran said she expected the meeting to be the first of a number of public meetings that needed to be held, and ultimately, she hoped people at the meeting would be prepared to volunteer to be part of a group that could act as a voice for the community.
