Houses still without power after wild winds

About 15 houses in the Dunedin area remain without power after it was cut by hurricane-force winds on Thursday night.

Delta marketing and communications manager Gary Johnson said 38 customers were still without power on Friday, and that number had been reduced to 15 today(SAT).

''They are mostly in Berwick and there is one in Scroggs Hill.

''Some of those people aren't home, so we can't reliven the power unless the property owners are there.

''Some are going to do some tree clearance and they have requested the power stay off until they've had a chance to do that.''

Work would continue over the weekend and it was hoped power would be restored to all properties by Monday, he said.
