Serious head injuries after falling

A 19-year-old man suffered serious head injuries after falling at a house party in North Dunedin on Saturday night.

Emergency services were called to a Dundas St address about 9.55pm.

A St John spokesman said the teen was taken to Dunedin Hospital with serious head injuries after falling from a hedge.

The incident comes a week after 18 students were injured when a balcony collapsed at a Six60 concert in Castle St on March 4.

Senior Sergeant Craig Dinnissen said police attended the party to provide assistance to St John and prevent any disorder.

However, no-one was arrested and police were not investigating the incident.

About 200 people were at the party, he said.

When the house was visited by the Otago Daily Times yesterday, large speakers remained outside.

An occupant of the house said he was not willing to speak about the incident and the tenants had "just had a party''.

A University of Otago spokeswoman said the university had no comment to make about the incident.

Various media reported yesterday the man had fallen from a balcony.
