Pupils from Queen's High School and Otago Girls' High School watch crash footage at the Make the Right Call - Safer Journeys Expo 2016 at the Edgar Centre yesterday.

They were among about 1700 mostly year 11 pupils due to attend sessions at the three-day expo, which runs until tomorrow. Dunedin City Council road safety adviser Deborah Palmer said the expo was designed for pupils who might be thinking about getting a driver's licence, or were at the very start of the process.

The expo has been held for a few years and had become more interactive in order to engage the pupils. It includes a crash scenario and sessions on modified vehicles, speed and environment, alcohol and road safety.

The human cost of road crashes is also examined.
