Drunk man found dangling upside down

A drunk man was found upside down by residents in the yard of their property in Bishops Rd, Dunedin, Fairfax reported.

Emergency services were called at about 10.26pm on Saturday to help the heavily intoxicated German man.

Police said the man was hanging over an embankment, with his head almost touching the ground.

"It was extremely bizarre," Fairfax quoted Dunedin senior station officer Pete Douglas as saying.

"For some reason he has come through a property, obviously taken a shortcut and tripped over. But luckily for him he has caught on a bit of vine and found himself upside down."

"If he hadn't been caught by that vine, the next drop was a lot more and he would have sustained some serious injuries."

The tenants of the house did not know who the man was or where he had come from, he said.

The man was taken for detox after firefighters cut him free from the vine.
