Footnote New Zealand dancers Jared Hemopo, Lana Phillips, Brydie Colquhoun, Emma Dellabarca and Jeremy Beck perform a work in the Octagon about gender roles, before the Footnote Dance Company show tonight.

Five members of the dance company will perform a series of works addressing themes including idolisation, gender, equality and protest.

Footnote Dance New Zealand general manager Richard Aindow said the contemporary performance aimed to generate conversation.

‘‘People can take all sorts from it.

‘‘They will leave with different views than when they went in.''

The Dunedin show was part of the company's national NOW 2016 tour, which included sold-out shows in Auckland and Wellington, he said.

The company will also perform in Invercargill as part of the Southland Festival of the Arts.
