System unfair, out of step: Trustpower

Trustpower has called for a review of the Dunedin City Council's rates differentials, claiming the current arrangement is unfair to the company and out of step with other local bodies.

In its submission, Trustpower said its rates for the scheme had increased by about $10,000 each year for the past six years.

The company would pay $95,097.61 - $92,615.85 to the Dunedin City Council and the remainder to the Clutha District Council - under the council's proposed rates for the 2016-17 year, more than three times the $29,473.81 the company paid in rates in 2010-11.

During annual plan submissions yesterday, a legal representative for the company called, via Skype, for the council to create a new differential for infrastructure companies in the Strath Taieri.

The differential could be established after a review of how rates were assessed, the representative said.

Trustpower called for the review to take place this year in time for new differentials to be in place by next year's annual plan.
