Museum charge mooted again

CR Andrew Whiley raised the possibility of charging visitors to Toitu Otago Settlers Museum during the Dunedin City Council's annual plan deliberations yesterday.

The suggestion comes a week after Cr Hilary Calvert raised the issue during annual plan submission hearings.

Cr Calvert also revisited the issue yesterday. Council chief executive Dr Sue Bidrose said gold-coin entry trials at smaller museums in the city had led to "plummeting visitor numbers''.

Council arts and culture group manager Bernie Hawke said staff were exploring other methods of sourcing financial donations to the museum.
