Thefts from Dunedin vehicles 'probably linked'

Police believe the thefts from several vehicles around Dunedin could be linked.

Senior Sergeant Liz Waru, of Dunedin, said six vehicles had the rear quarterlight window smashed and were searched between 7.30pm on Monday and 7.50am yesterday.

The vehicles were parked in McMillan St in Maori Hill, Glenelg St in Bradford, Tweed St in Roslyn, Brockville Rd in Brockville and two cars in Newington Ave in Maori Hill.

The items stolen included a TomTom GPS navigator, a car stereo faceplate, cricket gear, $15 in coins, a bag of books, a set of keys and bank cards.

The crimes were most likely linked, she said.

''Because of the timeframes and the tight concentration of the geographical area and the method used to get in the cars, there is a high likelihood that it is the same person or people.''

She reminded people to remove valuables from vehicles and to report any suspicious activity.
