Contractors work to demolish the west wing of the University of Otago School of Dentistry in Dunedin.

The work is part of a $126million redevelopment project, begun in January, to replace the 1981 building with a new clinical services building.

A university spokeswoman said there would be a two-week delay in some clinical programmes running at the school, although all affected patients had been contacted.

The School of Dentistry's urgent clinic would be operating as usual.

She said the project was on schedule, with archaeological investigations and detailed design complete.

This week the interior walls, cables and pipes were stripped out, in preparation for final demolition.

The scheduled completion date of the project is late 2019.
