Heritage Festival gets $4000 in DCC grant

Dunedin's industrial past will be recognised thanks to $4000 from the Dunedin City Council.

The Southern Heritage Trust received the money from the council's community events grant during the latest round of funding announced yesterday.

Trust founder Ann Barsby said the grant would go towards the 2016 Heritage Festival, "Powerhouse: Celebrating Dunedin's industrial legacy''.

The money would help advertise the event, which would be held during the last weekend of October, she said.

The festival would be centred on the Dunedin Gasworks Museum and feature events and attractions elsewhere around the city.

The grant was "marvellous'', Mrs Barsby said.

"It enables us to really get going.''

"Everything helps and it's a community event, so we want everybody to be involved with it.

"When you are running events like this it's something that only works if you can get the promotion out there.

"This grant is hugely important in that respect.''

The $4000 grant for the trust was among more than $255,000 allocated to 92 groups, organisations and individuals in the latest round of funding, council acting events and community development manager Paul Coffey said.

"DCC community funding is an important part of how we work in partnership with Dunedin's communities to make its strategies a reality,'' he said.

The next funding round opens in early September and closes at 5pm on September 30.
