The Dunedin City Council has awarded more than $1million in maintenance contracts.
The contracts for cemeteries maintenance and trees maintenance were announced yesterday by council asset and commercial manager Tom Dyer.
The five-year cemeteries maintenance contract was awarded to council-owned infrastructure company Delta for $552,000 and the three-year trees maintenance contract was awarded to national vegetation control specialist Asplundh for $496,000.
The cemeteries contract would including maintenance of lawns, gardens and facilities at the city's 20 cemeteries, Mr Dyer said.
Delta beat three other tenderers for the contract.
The trees contract included the management, programming and delivery of arboriculture for about 10,000 trees across the city.
It also included assessment and reporting on tree conditions and emergency tree maintenance.
Three tenders were received for the contract.
"The new contracts will rationalise a number of existing contracts due to expire on June 30,'' Mr Dyer said.
"Both Delta and Asplundh are experienced maintenance contractors and we are very confident they will deliver a great service for the community.''
The contracts take effect from July 1.
