Trust closes in on Mosgiel pool site

The trust behind a proposed four-pool facility in Mosgiel says it is close to finalising a site for the project.

Fundraising and design could not be started until a site was confirmed.

"It's somewhere within the Memorial Park vicinity that it's going to go, but it's finding where,'' Taieri Communities Facility Trust chairwoman Irene Mosley said.

"We have got it down to a couple of spaces.

"We are really trying to pin down the site because until we get that site pinned down we can't do any plans or fundraising.''

The Dunedin City Council has set aside $6million in the 2018-19 budget for the pool and the additional funds would need to be raised by the trust.

The trust believes the facility could be built for less than $15million, although the council has been sceptical about that possibility in the past.

Mrs Mosley said she remained confident the four-pool facility could be completed for the proposed budget.

"There's no indication to suggest that's not possible,'' she said.

Once a site was confirmed the trust would begin design work.

"Things are going OK, but we are just working through things,'' she said.

It was revealed last month that the council had agreed to work with the trust on developing the project after it was left in limbo following council staff's concerns that it could cost up to $20million.
