Police are investigating a serious assault in the Dunedin suburb of Andersons Bay yesterday that left a man unresponsive.
A police media spokeswoman said police were called to the property about 3pm today after a call from a third party.
''The man was breathing but not responsive [yesterday],'' the spokeswoman said.
''It does seem to be just two men involved.''
She was unable to provide more details at the time, including whether it was drug-related, as police were still speaking to the person who reported the assault.
The incident comes on the back of a recent surge of violent assaults in the city.

Police have not arrested anyone in connection.
