Interim manager for transport section

A senior Dunedin City Council staff member has been placed in charge of transport in the latest of a string of personnel changes in the department.

Parks and recreation group manager Richard Saunders took over the position as acting group manager of transport this week.

The role was left vacant after the resignation of previous group manager Ian McCabe in May, less than six months into his tenure.

The appointment comes amid a period of change for the department.

Four high senior staff have resigned in the past year and the council is investigating ways of improving the department's work.

Council organisational development and performance group manager Marian Rillstone said the appointment was part of an interim measure while the workings of the department were looked at.

Mr Saunder's first day in the role was Monday.

Tom Dyer had been appointed as acting parks group manager while Mr Saunders was working in the transport department.

The council did not respond to further questions about the appointment by deadline yesterday.
