Good mouthful of science

The "murder house'' is feared no more after children like Morgan McComb (9) got their teeth into dental work at the New Zealand International Science Festival yesterday.

Morgan and his family came to Dunedin from Greymouth for the science festival, and got hands-on to look at the shapes and sequences of teeth at the "Dental Detectives'' workshop.

The workshop was run by second-year University of Otago students studying towards a bachelor of oral health.

One student, Phoebe Chiu (19), said the workshop was important because it "broke it down so [children] are not scared of the dental environment''.

The workshop included five stations which looked at different things surrounding tooth science and dental practices.

The festival runs until Saturday.
