'Bus buddies' to help users adapt

A Dunedin bus users group, Bus Go, plans to provide up to a dozen "bus buddies'' to help city bus users cope with changes to public bus routes and the zone system next month.

The Otago Regional Council is undertaking a campaign, including media advertising, to raise public awareness of the changes.

The council has a graphic on its internet site highlighting the zone changes, which will result in seven zones being reduced to five.

Bus users group co-president Alex King said the group, which also has an explanatory bus zone graphic on its Facebook page, wanted to play a constructive role in raising awareness about the changes, which take effect on August 15.

It aimed to provide a series of "bus buddies'' who could advise and support members of the public at central city bus stops on August 15.

This approach and other responses to the changes will be discussed at a public meeting of the group in the Dunedin City Library's McNab Room next Monday at 1pm.
