Stadium 'bold move'

The man hired to run Dunedin's Forsyth Barr Stadium yesterday congratulated the Dunedin City Council on a "bold move" to build the facility.

After two weeks at the helm, David Davies said the stadium boasted some of the most advanced technological features in the southern hemisphere.

Mr Davies came before the council for the first time yesterday at a finance and strategy committee meeting.

He said his intention was to organise events that would make councillors proud of their support, and he hoped to be able to have some of those booked in the next 12 months.

Mr Davies was hired as chief executive of Dunedin Venues Management Ltd, the company formed by the council to run the stadium and other ratepayer-owned venues.

He had made plenty of contacts when booking performers from Bruce Springsteen to Simply Red while working overseas, and he expected the "black book" containing those to come in useful while in Dunedin.
