Dunedin company Powerhouse Wind's presentation of its
small-scale wind turbine prototype, unveiled at Otago
Polytechnic on Thursday, got an enthusiastic reception.
Engineers Bill Currie and Wayne O'Hara detailed the advances
they had made to the single-bladed machine, which they have
been working on full-time for the past 16 months, with help
from their business partner, Richard Butler.
A selection of the many engineers and designers who had
helped create the wind turbine was also present.
Many had suggestions on how the company could improve the
prototype, which is designed to power single households.
The support from Dunedin for the project was pleasing, Mr
Currie said.
Financial backing for further development was required and Mr
Currie said he had received an indication of interest from
Southland-owned equity and debt investment company Invest
South.
