This is probably not on most cruise-ship passengers' "to do" lists when they stop in Dunedin for the day, but it was the shore expedition Canadian couple Jeff Dennis and Kelly Mullen wanted.
The couple tied the knot on the beach yesterday while the cruise ship Sun Princess docked at Port Chalmers for the day.
Miss Mullen said the day had been lovely, especially as the rain that had pelted the city all morning cleared just in time for their 2pm nuptials.
They could have had a big traditional wedding at home in Ottawa, but they both loved to travel and wanted to have a private, more intimate ceremony, she said.
They chose to combine their wedding and honeymoon with a cruise around New Zealand on Sun Princess.
After a little research about the stops on their 14-day cruise, the pair, who both work in administration, were drawn to Dunedin's architecture and landscape.
They decided on Tomahawk beach after admiring pictures sent to them by Dunedin wedding photographer Moira Clark.
"We wanted it to be just us and we like to travel so what better sort of landscape to [get married] in than Dunedin," Mr Dennis said.
The newly-weds said they were travelling with Mr Dennis' mother and grandmother.
No relatives attended the ceremony, but the couple were to join them for a celebration dinner aboard the cruise ship last night.
