The challenge to come up with a new slogan to promote Dunedin
appears to have hit a creative nerve centre with readers of
the Otago Daily Times.
The Dunedin City Council announced on Monday its "I am
Dunedin" marketing strategy, developed in 2001, had ended,
and expressions of interest were being sought from creative
agencies to develop a new slogan for the city.
The ODT asked readers for their suggestions, and
responses began arriving yesterday.
Some took the task seriously, with slogans ranging from "Live
it, Love it . . . DUNEDIN" to "Dunedin - Expect the
unexpected".
Others chose humorous replies, or a play on words, such as
Zena Burgess' "Dunedin - 'Scot to be good for you".
Yet another group took a shot at the council, an example
being "Dunedin really rates higher".
