Repeated vandalism to saplings in the Otago Museum
reserve is "pretty disappointing", the Dunedin City Council
says.
In the past month, 11 young trees of different varieties were
planted in the North Dunedin reserve, which is bordered by
Cumberland, Castle and Albany Sts.
As of yesterday, only one was left standing, council parks
and reserves team leader Martin Thompson said.
The rest had been snapped off or pulled out of the ground.
The council had made several attempts to establish trees in
the reserve, but all efforts were foiled by vandals.
The trees would not be re-planted at this stage, but that
decision might be reviewed later in the year, Mr Thompson
said.
