Tb Free Otago chairman Stephen Korteweg has announced a small increase in this year's Otago land levy from $12.50 to $15 per $100,000 of land value, due in part to a decline in the Otago Regional Council grant.
The levy is collected from owners of land 4ha or more and will raise $767,500 to fund vector control.
Mr Korteweg said $6.5 million would be spent on vector control this year, similar to last; of which the Crown will fund 50%, the land levy and Otago Regional Council 11% and the balance from industry levies and grants.
He said the province's battle with Tb and Tb vectors was a success story.
There were 306 infected herds in 1998, when the land levy was introduced, but just 15 today.
The programme will now focus on constant monitoring to find hot spots and then pouring in resources to tackle those problem areas where possum numbers remain generally high.
On-farm testing for Tb and species which carry the disease, such as ferrets, would be key indicators, he said.
Meanwhile, the Otago Regional Council allocation for Tb vector control has declined from $290,000 for 2010-11 to $150,000 for 2011-12.
Council chairman Stephen Woodhead said the Tb control programme today was vastly different from the programme when the funding was initially approved and it was always going to be reviewed about now.
Tb Free New Zealand was also reviewing its National Pest Management Strategy, which could affect funding arrangements.
