Reuben Carter has qualified for his seventh Young Farmers
Contest regional final.
The Christchurch City YFC member won the Christchurch
district contest at Scottswood Farm, Hororata, on Saturday,
October 5, to qualify for the Tasman regional final in 2014
ANZ Young Farmer Contest.
It will be Mr Carter's fourth successive appearance in the
Tasman region final, after three appearances in the Northland
region final. He won the Tasman final earlier this year for
his first appearance in the grand final, in May. Mr Carter
will be joined by Lincoln YFC member Caleb Strowger and
Dunsandel club member Sarah O'Connell in the Tasman final at
the Murchison A&P Show on February 15.
Ms O'Connell previously competed in the Tasman final in 2011,
while Mr Strowger qualified for the 2012 regional final. The
Christchurch contest was the first of 24 district finals
being held throughout the country. Place-getters progress to
one of seven regional finals to be held from February to
April. The grand final will be held in Christchurch from July
3-5 next year.
The 46th Young Farmer Contest was officially launched at the
Commodore Hotel in Christchurch on October 4. Tim Van de
Molen, the 2013 champion, said the prizes on offer for this
year's contest was ''a great recognition of support for the

district contest at Glenmark on Saturday and he will be
joined by Charles Douglas-Clifford, also of Hurunui, in the
Tasman region final.
