2015 Farmarama: from dancers to tractors

Glamour will be combined with on-farm practicality during the 12th Lawrence Lions Southfuels Farmarama in Lawrence next year.

Organised by the Lawrence Lions Club, the two-day field day will be held at the gymkhana grounds in Lawrence on February 26 and 27.

Convener Dave Robertson, of Lawrence, said the event promised to be bigger than ever, with even more exhibitors this year already signed up, and more likely to come, as site applications had not closed.

''Exhibitors come from Otago and Southland and some even further away,'' Mr Robertson said.

''We cater for a diverse market.

''Visitors will have a huge range of products to look at, ranging from agricultural-related services, farm machinery and farm vehicles, chemicals, work clothing, stock feed and animal health products through to the latest equipment, farm services and pens of stud livestock.

''Farmarama will provide the ideal opportunity for farmers to explore everything that is on offer and make informed purchasing decisions,'' he said.

''They can see what is there, have a yarn, and catch up with each other.

''All farmers will find things of interest and we have got a few exhibitors we have not had there before.''

In addition to the commercial site holders, Wellsouth Primary Health will be giving farmers the opportunity to have their blood pressure taken.

Mr Robertson said the nurses' service had proved popular in the past and there had been instances where a farmer's dangerously high blood pressure had been picked up and further treatment from the family doctor recommended.

The Otago Dancers, who are cheerleaders for the Highlanders, will be performing.

''It will be the second time the dancers have appeared and the crowd has been enthusiastic in their appreciation,'' he said.

Local groups will help with catering and coffee-making as a fundraiser and the rugby club will be running a bar.

Money raised from the $10 admission charge will go to the local school to update IT equipment, and all other funds raised will be distributed to deserving charities in the regionThose wishing to exhibit at the Southfuels Farmarama should contact David Robertson, phone: (03) 485-9427.
