Naseby whiteout

'Two thousand feet above worry level' is now a few inches higher as Naseby is carpeted in snow.

Stacy Herd, from the Naseby Royal Hotel, said that it had been snowing since Thursday morning, although she expected rain would wash away the late spring snow overnight.

Although it had not snowed in Alexandra, Cromwell or Ranfurly, temperatures there ranged from 3degC to 6degC yesterday at 3pm.

That was cold enough for Iceinline, Alexandra's ice-skating rink, to open last night.

It was the first time it had opened this year.
