Robert Logan's white 1991 Nissan Sunny station wagon was found at the Owhiro Bay car park on the city's south coast on August 27.
The last confirmed sighting of the 51-year-old was about 9.30pm the previous night at Woolworths supermarket in suburban Kilbirnie.
Police spokeswoman Victoria Evans told NZPA that police were still looking to hear from anyone who saw Mr Logan around that time although no more searches were planned.
Ms Evans was not sure if Mr Logan's family was continuing an unofficial search.
