Taane to fight charges over song

Musician Tiki Taane says he will defend a charge of disorderly behaviour likely to cause violence, brought by the police when he sang an anti-police rap song as officers inspected a Tauranga club where he was performing.

Taane, 34, made a brief appearance in Tauranga District Court today, where his case was adjourned for a status hearing on August 26.

Taane was arrested in Tauranga early on Sunday, April 2, after his performance earlier at Illuminati nightclub, where he began singing the NWA song "F*** the police" as police officers were carrying out an inspection of the club.

Outside the court Taane said he would fight the charge.
