'Offensive' Boobs on Bikes parade to go ahead

[comment caption= Do you think this parade should be banned?]Pornographer Steve Crow has vowed he will stage the controversial Boobs on Bikes parade in central Auckland despite the council seeking a High Court injunction to stop it.

The event features bare-breasted women riding pillion on motorbikes along Auckland's Queen Street to advertise Mr Crow's R-18 Erotica Lifestyle Expo on Wednesday.

Auckland City Council today voted to seek an interim injunction against the parade, enforcing a bylaw that bans offensive public events, TV3 reported tonight.

Police cannot stop the parade and the application for an interim injunction means the High Court will rule on whether it can go ahead.

Councillor Cathy Casey, who has spearheaded the campaign against the parade, told the council meeting the organiser's claim the parade was harmless freedom of expression was nonsense.

Ms Casey has threatened to lie across Queen St with friends to stop the parade.

Family First national director Bob McCoskrie spoke at the meeting in support of the motion today, after laying a formal complaint against the parade.

"The Boobs on Bikes parade is a commercial stunt advertising an R-18 event, with sexualised nudity in a public street that is offensive to many people and completely inappropriate for young people and children to view," Mr McCoskrie said.

Mr Crow said he had never sought council approval for the parade, only its help with issues such as traffic.

Mr Crow said the parade would go ahead and the council and police could not stop it.

"We'll rename it and make it a protest."
