A man and woman were rescued from their boat after it started taking on water in Wellington Harbour this afternoon.
The boaties sent the Mayday call at about 3pm which was answered by a number of private vessels in the area as well as the Police launch and the Wellington Coastguard.
Lady Elizabeth (the ex police launch) was on scene, between Seaview and Somes Island, with in minutes of the Mayday call along with another private vessel.
Both the people onboard the boat were wearing life jackets and were assisted and removed from the water by a local boatie that answered the Mayday call. Lady Elizabeth attached a line to the submerged vessel.
The police launch arrived shortly after the victims had been removed from the water.
The launch Lady Elizabeth transferred the submerged vessel to the police launch Lady Elizabeth 4. The vessel was taken under tow and refloated by maritime police crew. It was then recovered to Seaview boat ramp.
Both occupants of the vessel were shaken but did not require medical assistance. They were reunited with their vessel at the Seaview boat ramp.
