Wellingtonians were shaken awake this morning by a magnitude
4.7 quake off the west coast of the North Island.
GNS Science said the 93km deep quake struck 65km northeast of
French Pass, in the north of the South Island, at 5am.
The quake was followed by a flurry of Twitter messages from
people who had been waken.
"Thanks for the wake up call," wrote Radio New Zealand
journalist Nicola Kean.
"I'm glad I'm too drunk right now to make the connection that
the wobbling that woke me up was actually an #eqnz," wrote
Lauren.
