Face slashed, ear sliced in pub attack

A man's ear was torn in half and his face and neck were slashed when he was attacked with a glass at a Coromandel pub early this morning.

The 23-year-old man was part of a group from Pukekohe who had been on a social club outing at the Tui Lodge in Coromandel township.

Senior Constable John Morrissey of Coromandel police said the group had drunk too much alcohol before a fight broke out between a few of them about 1am.

One of the men was struck in the face by a glass object, which sliced off half of his ear.

He also suffered cuts to his face and neck.

Mr Morrissey said the man was taken to Waikato Hospital with non life-threatening injuries, and was due to undergo surgery today.

Police inquiries were continuing and an arrest was likely, Mr Morrissey said.
