Two people have been seriously injured in a two-car smash in north Canterbury this afternoon.
Emergency services were alerted to the Waimakariri accident, on the corner of South Eyre Rd and Tram Rd, at 4.45pm.
Police South Communications acting shift inspector John Robinson said officers were still at the scene.
"There's still a lot of work to be done."
One of the drivers involved, was believed to be an elderly man, he said.
An Ambulance spokesman confirmed two people were involved in the crash. Both were taken to Christchurch Hospital with serious injuries.
The police serious crash unit was investigating.
