Suspicious fire in Christchurch

Two fires last night - one deemed suspicious - are being looked at by Christchurch fire safety officers.

The first occurred in Ashburton at 4.50am and fire safety officers were investigating to determine the cause, Southern Fire Communications spokeswoman Lyn Crosson said.

"No persons [were] injured, nothing like that, it was just a house fire, but going well when we arrived.

The house was occupied, but the residents got out, Ms Crosson said.

Three fire appliances attended the blaze, she said.

The second fire occurred in Christchurch's Colombo St.

"That was a two storey, wooden house. Again, K99 on arrival, which means burning well."

Four fire appliances and a command unit attended, Ms Crosson said.

No one was injured, but the fire was deemed suspicious, she said.

Fire safety officers and police were investigating.
