Two in hospital after Coromandel crash

A child and an adult have been flown to hospital after a car crashed down a bank in eastern Coromandel this afternoon.

An Ambulance spokesperson has confirmed there were two children and four adults in the vehicle when it crashed.

One adult and one child are in a serious condition and were flown by Westpac Rescue Helicopter to Waikato Hospital.

The other four occupants were transported to Thames with moderate injuries.

The single-vehicle crash closed State Highway 25, known as Whitianga Rd, about 10 minutes north of Tairua.

The area is near Pauanui, about halfway between popular holiday spots Whangamata and Whitianga.

The road was closed in both directions after the crash.
